The predecessor of Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital was Guangzhou Central Hospital under the Ministry of
Health of the National Government. It moved from Guiyang to Huifu West Road in Guangzhou in 1946.
In 1951, with the approval of the Central Ministry of Health, Guangzhou Central Hospital was renamed "Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital".
In 1952, the inpatient department moved to Baizi Road (now the junction of Dongchuan Road and Zhongshan 2nd Road in Guangzhou), and the
first outpatient department of Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital was established on the site.

In 2005, the Huifu Outpatient Department was renamed: "Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital Huifu District", and in 2006 it was renamed "Huifu Branch"
Pingzhou Branch was established in 2006
In 2016, Nanhai Hospital of Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital and Guangdong Cardiovascular Hospital was established
Zhuhai Hospital of Guangdong Provincial People's Hospital was established in 2016
